Slides from Rick Anderson

Across the country, libraries are rapidly becoming the hub for new technologies on campus. From Maker Spaces to Innovation Labs, many campus communities are introduced to new offerings in their library. What role can Google Glass play in teaching, learning, researching, workflow? What new uses can be found for 3D printers? How might augmented reality change the way we view places and spaces?

Wearable technology offers new ways to interact with content and physical spaces, and libraries are utilizing Google Glass to provide students with a new way to explore collections and campuses. Heather Staines, one of the original Google Glass Explorers details how Glass is being used in educational settings. 3-D printers offer new ways to create both functional items and works of art. Until this technology proliferates more broadly, libraries can serve as a convenient hub for those who need to “make” things happen. Rick Anderson will detail how his library is making use of these printers. Finally, augmented reality can connect digital objects to the physical space, making special collections come to life in new ways. Educators, libraries, publishers, and creators are exploring what is possible with these new tools. A. Jay Harrison, a pioneer in augmented reality technology, will reveal how these technologies can enhance our lives through content display in context.

Join us to whet your appetite for new technology and come armed with ideas from your campus.
